Payment and Funding Options

Supporting You to Find the Right Funding So You Can Access the Our World-Class Treatment

At Khiron Clinics, we understand that the cost of mental health treatment can be a significant concern, often adding strain and uncertainty to an already distressing time. In recognition of this, we offer varied and accessible funding options to meet the needs of each individual.

We provide customised plans to accommodate various funding sources, whether you are using Private Medical Insurance, seeking NHS referrals, or planning to finance your treatment personally or through support from family and friends.

Self-Funding

If you have the means to finance your own treatment or have financial support from family and friends you can contact us directly to discuss treatment options and pricing. At Khiron we provide both residential and outpatient treatment services for adults, children and adolescents, and families.

During a telephone consultation, we can discuss a range of options, including the duration of treatment, location, and the level of care required, in addition to the price.

Insurance

All Khiron Clinics services can be funded with Private Medical Insurance (PMI), but it depends what level of coverage you have, so the first step is to contact your insurance company and check whether they cover our services.

Services are also accessible through numerous overseas insurance companies, including those based in the Middle East, the US, and Europe. In these cases, clients typically pay for their treatment upfront and then receive reimbursement from their insurance provider, depending on their coverage level.

Accessing mental health treatment through your Private Medical Insurance (PMI) involves several steps. We recognise that this process can be confusing and are committed to making it as smooth and efficient as possible, ensuring you receive the necessary care without delay. Our team is here to support you every step of the way, ensuring you get the treatment you need.

Financial Support For UK Clients

NHS Integrated Care Boards (ICBs)

Option 1: The NHS reaches out to us directly to inquire about treatment for a client. Our intake director, Angela, conducts an initial screening with the referring professional to identify any potential risks. If any risks are found, she consults with the clinical team before moving forward with an assessment. Usually, a Khiron clinician will then contact a member of the NHS team to gather more information and arrange an assessment.

Option 2: A client schedules an assessment independently and provides the resulting report to their GP, NHS team, or psychiatrist, requesting for them to apply for funding. The internal process for this application may vary, but typically, a monthly panel for each ICB reviews, approves, or rejects funding requests.

Local Authority Funding and Joint Funding

Each local authority, or council, has funds available for healthcare linked to NHS funding, so it may be possible to receive financial support through them. Decisions on who will fund the treatment are generally made during the monthly panel meetings, though specific procedures may vary. Joint funding, where there is a collaboration between the NHS and local authorities, will also follow the same process. This is all managed internally through the NHS, so you don’t need to worry about contacting the local authority yourself.

Financial Support For International Clients

HSE in Ireland

We also accept funding from the Health Service Executive (HSE), Ireland’s equivalent to the NHS.

Government Funding from Jersey

Clients from Jersey may be eligible to receive government funding for mental health treatment. The application process for this funding typically involves an assessment of the client’s needs and circumstances, and approval is granted based on specific criteria set by the Jersey government. Our team is here to assist clients from Jersey in navigating this process, providing guidance and support to help secure the funding needed for their treatment.

Employer-Funded Treatment

Some employers have covered the cost of treatment for their employees. In these cases, the employers often find our services through an online search, or requests from employees.

If you’re considering asking your employer for financial support for mental health treatment, start by preparing your case with information on the benefits to your well-being and work performance. Review company policies for existing mental health support, then schedule a private meeting with HR or your supervisor. Be honest about your situation, explaining how treatment can improve your work, and suggest specific ways they can help, such as covering costs or providing flexible hours. Many employers understand that supporting employee well-being leads to greater productivity and engagement.

Overseas Insurance

Including US Residents

Obtaining trauma treatment in the UK through an international insurance company involves several steps to ensure that your treatment is covered while adhering to both the insurance company and UK regulations.

Here’s a detailed guide to help you through the process:

1. Review Your Existing Insurance Policy

Coverage Details: Check if your current insurance policy in the US, or your country of residence includes international coverage, specifically for mental health treatment.

In-Network Providers: Determine if the policy requires you to use specific in-network providers or if it offers out-of-network benefits that can be used internationally.

2. Contact Your Insurance Provider

Direct Inquiry: Reach out to your insurance company to inquire about the specifics of getting mental health treatment in the UK. Ask about the process for getting prior authorisation if needed.

Policy Adjustments: Discuss the possibility of adding international coverage or purchasing a rider to your existing policy to cover mental health treatment in the UK.

3. Research International Health Insurance Plans

Specialised Providers: Look for international health insurance companies that cater to expatriates and travellers, such as Cigna Global, Aetna International, and Allianz Care.

Plan Comparison: Compare plans to ensure they cover mental health treatment services in the UK, including inpatient and outpatient care, counselling, and medication-assisted treatment.

4. Coordinate with Khiron Clinics

Insurance Acceptance: Confirm whether your insurance will bill Khiron Clinics directly or provide the necessary documentation for reimbursement.

Cost Estimate: Obtain an estimate of the treatment costs and discuss payment arrangements, including any upfront payments required.

5. Pre-Authorisation and Documentation

Pre-Authorisation: Work with your insurance provider and Khiron Clinics to get necessary pre-authorisations. This step is crucial to ensure your treatment will be covered.

Documentation: Gather all required documentation, such as medical records, treatment plans, and referral letters, to support your insurance claims.

6. Understand the Claims Process

Claims Submission: Familiarise yourself with the insurance company’s claims submission process, including the forms needed and the deadlines for submission. You may wish to seek help from someone you trust, as dealing with this process can be complex, particularly when you are already in crisis.

Keep Records: Maintain detailed records of all communications, receipts, and documentation related to your treatment and insurance claims.

7. Follow-Up Care

Continued Coverage: Ensure that your insurance policy covers follow-up care and any necessary ongoing treatment after your initial stay in the UK.

Transfer of Care: Plan for the transfer of care if you will be returning to your country of residence, or moving to another country after your treatment.

In each case, an assessment with recommendations by Khiron Clinics is required to be given to the NHS, HSE, local authority, or insurance companies. We strive to make the funding and treatment access process as clear and straightforward as possible, providing support at each step to ensure clients receive the care they need.
